Photo of the Week #3
Create an abstract image. Use your camera as a painter would use a brush and your final image (like a canvas) is a photograph that looks like a painting. It may be blurred with colour or a close up of a larger image but your intent here is to go abstract and deconstruct the subject matter into an interesting part. When it is captured in your photographic frame of reference there is a unique and spontaneous quality about it that would resemble that of an abstract painting. Have fun with different angles, spin around the room with your camera in hand or take an image from a bird's eye view. The ideas are endless!

ReplyDeleteI will be commenting on Julia Manuba's photo. Your abstract photo is absolutely stunning. I love the effects used on the picture, the contrast between the tree and the sky make the object in focus pop even more. The larger branches of the tree add to the abstract feeling, this is so because the larger branches lead your eye towards the smaller branches, which draws you into the whole photo. Seeing the photo piece by piece, such as following the branches, creates the photography element 'lines'. Another photography element that I see is value. This is because there is no real colour, it is mainly shades such as black and white. Since the tree appears to be almost black, it seems as though the tree is a mere shadow or silhouette, which adds to the beauty of the photo. Overall, the photo is well taken, the angle you took it at was very well thought out and the effects used create the photography elements found in your photo. Good job Julia!
ReplyDeleteCarly- I was really intrigued by your photo and thought it was an amazing shot! I've decided that I am going to title the photo 'Dynamic Motion'. I think that your use of colour is what really makes the photo pop. You did a great job blurring the colours against the dark backdrop as it makes each colour vibrantly stand out on its own. I think that what makes this photo very interesting is that each line is a different colour and length, makeing everything contrast nicely. Also, since you were able to make everything contrast nicely, you made it very appealing as well as popping to the eye. Overall, amazing job!

ReplyDeleteIf I were to pick a name for your photo it would be "Erratic Firecracker". This name would fit with the uncontrollable display of lights on the brick wall. A dominant trait expressed through this photo would be the form. The background is a brick wall which is very clear through the light emitted by the firecracker. However, the light is the best example of form. It is so misshaped that is a spectacle to look at, also the light flickering away adds to the form. This photo is very eye catching having so many focal points. The firecracker also forms many shapes and goes everywhere attracting attention. Overall this is an excellent photo.

Kevin V- Wow I don't know where to start, your use of line and balance in your picture are like no other, I will call your photo "Sleek Elegance". I love the fine detail and blend of the use of light and dark. The red is so pure and loud but yet so quite and calm. The angle of the shot adds a lot too the picture because you feel as though you are in a different space. Your photo displays alarming sleekness and outstanding fine angles. The pixels in the background show a great use of focus with your camera. I love every part of it and of coarse the great car :)
ReplyDeleteThanks <3
DeleteJessica M- I chose to comment on your photo because there are multiple things that cathch my eye. I think an appropriate title for your photograph would be "Restricted Noise" because there are bright and fun colours used but is blocked by blur. I am intrigued by the colours shown in your picture and especially the rain drops on the glass, it gives off a very interesting vibe. The rain makes the picture very unique and different and I think you did an amazing job with this assignment. The way you made the colours blurred also gives a great abstract effect. Overall, I absolutely love this picture and you did an incredible job

Malena - I absolutely adore your photo because of the colour, the perspective, and the subtle hints of whimsy it brings. The common activity of getting a car wash adds an understatement of commonality and subdued work behind a picture that is so effortlessly beautiful. The colours are magnificent the way they are toned down by the light. The hints of colour add that whimsical effect to a casual outing allowing a sense of hidden beauty to shine through and present a new world and way of seeing to the viewer. It allows the viewer to add depth to a car wash and shows that truly anything can be beautiful in the right light. The commonality of this sight mixed with the fact that it caught your eye in an abstract way really shows how photography causes the taker to change their view on every aspect of life. Through your use of colour, light, and angle you have provided a truly amazing insight into the daily photographer and the beauty of everything, even as simple as a car wash.

DeleteSorry I didn't see what the aspects first so here is another addition - if I were to give Malena's photo a title I would call it "hidden beauty" (for the resins mentioned above). Also, the aspect would be colour found in the soap suds. As well the eye catching effect is listed above.

ReplyDeleteMatina- I very much liked your photograph and if I were to give it a title it would probably be "through the lens" as I absolutely love how you not only captured your own view of the sunset but also the view through someone else's lens. I love how even though we are looking at the same sunset, your eye is drawn to the colour on the other cameras screen which allows you to fully see the sunset from two angles, one large almost full screen, another small but bright. The choice to not fully focus on the other camera also gave the colour in the sunset a chance to really step out as the main attention in the photo. I find your photo really intriguing, because again it is very simple but gives you the chance to see the sunset from multiple view points. Overall you did a great job!

"Retro Vibes"
ReplyDeleteI love this photo! It looks very professional and appealing. I find the vintage vibe on this photo really nice because it blends in really well with the retro lights and also the angle that it is taken at is wonderful because it shows a close up of the first light and the rest of the lights blurred out in the background. The dark background also highlights the object(light bulb) a lot more which makes the photo clearer and eye-catching.
" rich , bold and fast "
ReplyDeleteThis is Tony Greco commenting on Farzans picture is picture really stood out too me because of the colours I like how there is a dark backround with a nice orange backround this caught my whe right away I think this is a beautiful rich looking picture
Ps: I'm on a beach right now and I've tired handing it in a couple times if someone could comment back showing its up on the blog that would be great hope everyone has a great March break !

ReplyDeleteKaleb- I like all the colours that you blended into the photo it almost looks natural and it gives the photo a calming effect as the texture of the waves look as if the water is still in motion and I believe that the appropriate title for this photo would be "natures movement" because it looks very natural and original.
ReplyDeleteI'll be commenting on Lucas's photo today. If I had to choose a name for his photograph it would have to be "Leaping Lights". The element that really stood out to me and made me choose your picture was the colour because I like how you used a black background to allow the colours to pop out and really be seen easily. Also I like how in the picture some of the lights are blurry and look like they are fading away and some are really vibrant and you can see them clearly. Great picture Lucas and keep up the great work

To Silvanna,
ReplyDeleteYour photograph of the frosted ice looking sheet pops out to me. It suits our current season and the ice makes it as though you're taking a picture from an old church window. Not only that, you can also get a sense of the background from the colouring you can see through the ice. With a fire ground, a back ground and no focal point, this photo makes you feel like you're actually there. I think your picture speaks for itself quite well.
Im choosing to comment on Jessica Mendoza's photo because I really enjoy the way she captured the rain drops mid way dripping down the window making it a beautiful abstract and action shot and when looking at all the photos this was one that really popped out to me and I really enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteThis comment is for Silvana Battaglini. I love your photo! If I were to give it a tittle I would call it a "Winter Storm". Your photo is very eye catching, what stood out to me the most was the contrast of colours of the blue and white. With those colours, it made the photo pop out as well as make all the different colours stand out. And with the texture of it, it also made the photo look like a stain glass. Very well done, keep up the good work

ReplyDeleteGreat use of colour in this photo, I think all the colours blended together really well forming a rainbow like image, I think a good title for this photo would be "neon rainbow" because of the colours, I love the use of the rain acting as this photo is more shallow than deep, it shows texture in the way the light catches the rain drops. Overall this photo is amazing and has many characteristics to it that shows a higher more contrast use of a camera and lens.

ReplyDeleteI like his photo a lot because of all the warm colours. I would name this photo "Flaming Away" since the flames disappear in to the background. It brings a sense of heat and warmth even during this cold weather. the flames themselves look beautiful and have a lot of movement, but since you have shook the camera it adds some extra movement to the flames which I think creates a nice effect. The dark background and then the flames which are white in the centre create a nice contrast and makes the inner flame the focal point of the photo. I also like the ombre effect from orange to yellow to white. It adds dimension and colour. Love this photo, and also love Bon fires! -malena
ReplyDeleteTo Christine,
If I were to give your photo a title I'd call it "Stained Waves" because the colourful waves of stained glass has light shining through the glass from the bottom which emphasizes the colour to stand out even more than it already does. The dominant design element in this photo is the colour of the stained glass waves. The choices of colour this artist chose for this piece was unique in which they wanted to express the cooler side of colours like using green, different shades of blue and even yellow to compliment those colours, and to add something that pops out from the cooler colours. I found this photo eye catching because having the camera focused on the center of the stained glass is a great way to show the beautiful contrast between the waves of colours. This photo really caught my eye! Great Job Christine!:)

ReplyDeleteThe name i would give this exquisite photo would be "The lighter side" because there are so many shades of the flame that produces a brilliant orange, yellow and white light. further more it gives off a warm sensation as if i were standing next to it. The use of blur and motion in this picture gives the feeling that the flame is constantly moving which is also a great way to express the emotion of the photo. lastly the flame stands out with the help of the black background making it standout and also making it the focus point of the photo. Great photo

jessica,
ReplyDeleteif I were togive your photo a name I would call it " a beautiful rainy day" because after almost every rainfall there is sometimes a rainbow and you incorporated the lights that are the colour of a rainbow and the raindrops. The rain and lights mash well together and give your photo a certain meaning to it. The colours are very beautiful, the angle it was taken on is perfect because it captures the raindrops and the lights in a very nice!
"ER Room" I'm commenting on Lenna's photo, I really like how all the white comes out and in the all the tv shows and movies it really looks like the person on the beds view except there is no doctors on the bedside yelling at him to stay with him. The angle is great and focus is amazing! Great work Lenna!!
